First off, Xgl doesn't provide anything that Xorg doesn't provide to
the end user you are right. However, that simply means that Xfwm4
-can't- get on the "Xgl train". There is no train to get on. Xfwm has
a compositing manager which performs it's little bits of eye candy -
Compiz provides a whole lot more eye candy. They're both using the
same interface to the X server.

That said, I think that Xgl is anything but a train.cliff_wrecked. The
fact that Xgl provides the same things as Xorg is a -feature-. They're
both X servers! Of course they're the same. The difference is the
driver and acceleration architecture. It seems to me that Xgl is
vastly superior to Exa in this regard (although I'd still like to see
a nice 2D fallback for old cards in Xgl....). I think we'll see a
merge of Xgl into Xorg in the next year.
