...thank you, I just found out a few other little tricks while I was hackin'
around with this :-)

Hints:

GtkButton      ::default_border    = { x, x, x, x }

That affects the 'depth' of the border in the theme, which can affect also the
depth of the shadow if you're using the composite extension

and

bg[NORMAL]        = "#xxxxxx"

...seems to be the overall colour 'scheme'.
