Hi,

adding 'export BROWSER=firefox' to ~/.bash_profile actually does nothing.
Adding it to ~/.bashrc enables opening of URLs in a shell window
(xfterm4), but not in external apps.

I finally got it to work somehow by adding
network.protocol-handler.app.http to thunderbird's about:config and by
editing XChat's urlhandlers.conf. But I think it's kind of redundant
to have every application handle this stuff in its own way and there
should be a system-wide setting for URL handling (and perhaps for
other "preffered application" stuff as well).

Regards,
Patrick
