Why so many instances of taskbar??

To answer my own (second) question, apparently so.  I did a 'killall 
xftaskbar4' and then 'xftaskbar4 &' (which complained about not being able 
to connect to the session manager), exited and returned, and xfce strated 
up rapidly, instead of taking its sweet time as it has been.
