Although I hate "me too" posts, I've always had this problem as well, one click on it and it redraws.  On all versions of XFCE I've run.
 
Xorg 6.8.2 (no composite), FC2, kernel 2.6.11.11, fglrx 8.12.10, XFCE 4.2.2.

same for me, it's been doing that since 4.2.0 I think.
