I've checked the Slackware package file (by downloading again from a
different place) and it's identical to the one I installed.  I
uninstalled the previous version before installing.  Looking for xfce
files on my system they all seem to be in the /usr hierarchy.

Anyway I'll try the graphical installer when it's downloaded and see
if that improves things.
