4.2.2 installation oddities

Some further oddities about my xfce-4.2.2 installation on Slackware:-

The background doesn't cover all the background if you see what I
mean. I have the background set to blue but the top cm. or so of
    the background is pale grey.

Middle mouse button click on the background does bring up a menu,
it's a menu of applications to go to, not one I've ever used.

When I right click on the funny (not very useful) thing in the
bottom right corner and select 'Properties' I get an error saying
'Xfce Settings Manager error: No such plugin "xfibx"'.

Similarly when I right click on the task bar and select Properties
I get a similar error saying 'Xfce Settings Manager error: No such
    plugin "xfce"'

Why am I getting all these missing plugins?
