xfce installer problem

I've been trying to upgrade my xfce installation, I have to say it's not trivial.

First I completely destroyed my old installation, by mistake, I just cleared out a few old
files and the result was that xfce refused to start at all, wdm just fell over.

So I logged in as root and decided to build a completely new installation, I've downloaded
the xfce4-4.2.2-installer.bin and run that.

It starts off OK but I get an error when trying to build the Xfce Icon Theme. The error
is:-
 gmake[4]: Nothing to be done for `install-exec-am'.
 /tmp/xfce4-4.2.2-installer/xfce4-icon-theme/install-sh -d
 /tmp/xfce4-4.2.2-installer/destdir.27014/usr/local/share/icons/Rodent/48x48/filesystems
 test -z "/usr/local/share/icons/Rodent/48x48/filesystems" || mkdir -p --
 "/tmp/xfce4-4.2.2-installer/destdir.27014/usr/local/share/icons/Rodent/48x48/filesystems"
 mkdir: cannot create directory
 `/tmp/xfce4-4.2.2-installer/destdir.27014/usr/local/share/icons/Rodent/48x48/filesystems': File
 exists
 gmake[4]: *** [install-data-local] Error 1

Is this a known error? How do I fix it?
