Changing background programatically

Hi,

I would like to have a way to change the background of xfce using 
another program. My first attempt was to change directly the XML file 
xfce uses for configuration, but that does not change the background 
(xfce does not watch the file (good)).

Then, I should find some way to change the xml file and tell xfce that 
the background changed. I think this can be done using mcs, but I don't 
know how to use it.

Anybody can give me a hint?
