How to start XFCE v4.2 RC3 once installed over 4.06

That depends, when did you install 4.2 to, /usr/local (that's the
default location) ? Where is 4.0.6 installed to? You might want to try
using the full path to startxfce4(/usr/local/startxfce4) and see where
that gets you.
