Thanks for the pointer. I pasted the attachment to bug 82322 
into /usr/local/portage/xfce-extra/mousepad/mousepad-0.2.0.ebuild.

I followed those instructions and all went smoothly. However, when I typed 
"mousepad" into a konsole running on xfce4, I got a segmentation fault. I 
also tried adding an item to the panel, giving it the command 
"/usr/bin/mousepad" and the icon "/usr/share/pixmaps/mousepad.png".

When I'd previously downloaded the tarball and run "./configure && make && 
make install", the resulting binary had run just fine.

Is there a problem with konsole on xfce4?
