xfce 4.2 unstable?

I have no idea. Perhaps nvu is poorly-written, and some random factor
present in GNOME not present in Xfce (or vice versa) is causing it to
crash (it's the app's fault for depending on something like that). Or
perhaps there's something peculiar about your configuration. Perhaps
you have a hardware failure that only shows itself in certain
situations. Regardless, it's almost certain that this has nothing to do
with Xfce.
As a random data point, Firefox runs flawlessly on my and many others'
Xfce machines. I was evaluating nvu for a friend a few months ago, and
it ran fine for me as well.
