Window Wierdness

   This morning, every window (virtual terminal, dialog box, application
window, etc.) has a small, black square in each lower corner. It covers
whatever text or display should be there. This is not an issue with the
display monitor itself but with every window opened on the Xfce desktop.

   Has anyone ever seen this before? I killed X and restarted but the
annoying and distracting squares (small, but intrusive) remain. In the years
I've run xfce I've not seen this before. It wasn't present on Wednesday
before I left on a business trip so I cannot imagine what is causing this.

   Any and all ideas or suggestions are solicited.
