Hi Jan,
You can do what you want with Eterm, and a lot more. I've been playing
with it since this topic was discussed a week or two ago. I've tried
lots of terminals and it's the best that I've seen.
Try this: Eterm -x --buttonbar 0 --trans --scrollbar 0
If you don't like the default behavior, you can change almost anything
to make it do what you want. It even has font effects that make the text
more readable against any background. Read the man page.
Personally I find pseudo transparency distasteful. I'm looking forward
to the true transparency in the new x.org server.
