mail checker

Hey 
  I have added the mail checker to my panel and added my pop3 account
like it said to in the forums via
 
pop3://user:password at server

and i dont seem to be getting anything at all. Also with the properties
of the mail checker for new mail command i am using the aplay command to
play a wav file when receiving new mail, but alas no luck. It seems its
not reading my pop 3 mailbox correctly. Anyone have any ideas, thanks.
