(If you reply through the mail list, then others can evaluate your
problem and my suggestions.)
Why not just try to use my ~/.xfce4/xinitrc ( *** My ~/.xfce4/xinitrc:
below) and start things as I described? I know how to read these
scripts (startxfce4, xinitrc, etc.) ; so, I may be taking a lot for
granted if you are not familiar with shell scripts.
Is your ~/.xfce4/xinitrc ececutable?
jkern at boat:~$ ls -l .xfce4/xinitrc
-rwxr--r-- 1 jkern jkern 640 2004-02-29 20:39 .xfce4/xinitrc
Does the following command output look like this? (N.B. lines may be
wrapped.)
jkern at boat:~$ ps -ef | grep "\-client"
jkern 618 1 0 08:35 tty1 00:00:00 /usr/bin/xftaskbar4
--sm-client-id 11c0a80002000107741875300000019960002
jkern 620 1 0 08:35 tty1 00:00:00 xfdesktop --sm-client-id
11c0a80002000107741074500000010610003
jkern 621 1 0 08:35 tty1 00:00:00 xfwm4 --daemon
--sm-client-id 11c0a80002000107741074500000010610001
jkern 623 1 0 08:35 tty1 00:00:27 xfce4-panel
--sm-client-id 11c0a80002000107741074500000010610005
jkern 625 1 0 08:35 tty1 00:00:02 smproxy -clientId
