/etc/X11/xfce4/xinitrc weirdness

    I was about to post this! I have a symbolic link pointing to my 
gkrellm executable file from ~/Desktop/Autostart and it works well, so I 
did:

    cd ~/Desktop/Autostart (well I had to make the directory before as I 
didn't have it)
    ln -s /usr/local/bin/gkrellm .

    And know it works fine, try it.
