settings panel empty?

Hi, I tried searching the archives, but i did not found my problem.
So here it goes.

Upon installing xfce 4.0.6 on Slackware 10 from source tarballs, ik can launch
xfce. The windows manager is working and there is a launch panel at the bottom.

But when i launch the settings panel, i get a empty dialog window.
No icons, no buttons, nothing. Only the normal window decorations and a close
button.

Launcing xfce-setting-show in a terminal window shows the same empty dialog
with no error output in the terminal windows.

Any ideas?

I then installed a copy of SuSE 9.1 on my laptop an then installed the rpm's.
After doing this twice, the second time using rpm -i --force --nodeps all is
working fine on SuSE.
But the .xsession-errors there sows 4 modules more, not found in
.xsession-errors on the slackware machine:
module eyes, module tl, module mixer and module systray.
