root-tail and xfdesktop?

Hi, I just applied this patch against a xfdesktop taken from 
xfce-4.0.2.srpm.tar.bz2 and against xfdesktop downloaded from cvs.
Comilation is fine, but unfortunately it doesn't work as I expected - I 
can't get a root-tail write straight into a desktop.
Can anyone confirm that it works? Or maybe it needs some settings?
