session_settings.so not there

huh.  well that's rather weird.  what kind of system are you on?  
perhaps try passing --enable-shared or --enable-shared=yes to configure?

are there other .so files in that directory?  anything different between 
how you built the other xfce pacakges vs. how you built xfce4-session?
