Icons in taskbar

I (for the first time!) have recently changed my icon theme in CVS and I was surprised to see that when I open programs, the icon in the taskbar is not the one bound (by myself or the theme) in the panel.  Plus, I was also surprised to find an icon for which I had been looking.  (Read: Where does Xfce get its icons?)

Is it possible (and even remotely trivial) to have the taskbar inherit icons from the icon theme?
