Add icons to desktop?

First off I love XFCE. It is simpe and I love it. My g/f has a different view of
the world.

Please excuse the question but is there now or will there ever be a way to add
icons to the desktop? I have read all the documentation that I could find on the
XFCE4 and have found no mention of a methd to add icons, and as I do not see any
icons in any screenshots I do not think it is possible.
