'xauth list' doesn't work in xfce4 (for me)

Yes, I upgraded to rc4 on another box, and it works fine also (same
binaries as the broken one).  I'm just looking for a way to debug this,
as all thing point to xfce4 at the moment.  I've tried re-installing the
packages, rebuilding the packages, removing openssh and X11 and
re-installing, nothing seems to work.  Removing .xfce4 also seems to
have no affect.

Any ideas?
