Can't Start xfwm4

Thanks for the prompt reply, john-thomas richards.

As I'd indicated at the start of my message, I'm using xfwm4 as a stand
alone window manager and the manual is quite clear about the command
required to start it: xfwm4. I'm not using the full desktop.
