sorry, I did not track discussion, but why do want to cron to do this?
cron is not for this. it is a system service, not really connect to user
session. sorry. you can do it but ... there are simplier, and much
efficient ways, e.g. X starup script. just think for a while ... almost
every wm which sets backgound uses xloadimage or some custom tool, which
you can also use... or modify source ;) ......... it is real fun
