xfce desktop

Hi All.

I installed XFCE on Vector Linux RC2.
I have some problem related to xfdesktop with various programs :
* Tried rox filer as icons manager (rox --pinboard=PIN), rox cover all of 
the desktop.
* dfm (desktop icons manager) can not show up (but it runs, I can see the 
process with ps).
* My kids like xpenguins, but it does not show up too.
* The same problem with xsnow.

The problems do not occurs when I'm using fluxbox or IceWM.
Also when I turned off xfdesktop.

I guess xfdesktop does not operate on root window.
