Look at http://xfce.org/en/overview.html. Unless you've got the
requisite version of GTK2 (>=2.0.6) and all its associated packages
(pango, atk, glib2, etc.) installed, it's going to be a whole lot of
work to get to the point where you can start building XFce4, let alone
install it.

The only pre-built binaries that I am aware of for SuSE are for 8.2.
If you have GTK2, etc. installed, you could try to build from the source
rpms at http://students.oamk.fi/~olilju00/xfce4/4.0.0/srpm/ , but no
guarantees.
Binaries for 9.0 will probably be out not long after that is released.
