Hmm... rather embarassingly, I cannot find any .xsession-errors files in
my $HOME (or elsewhere). I see that the Xsession script in
/etc/X11/Sessions/XSession is trying to write any errors to $HOME, but
I'm unsure if its even being invoked. Are the .xsession-errors deleted
everytime X is restarted (cause I've done that a few dozen times tonight
;-)
I did try a new .xinitrc, with each component (xfwm4, etc.) redirecting
output to a different text file, but all were blank. A ps -aux shows
that indeed xfwm4 is not running. My test .xinitrc is below:
xfce-mcs-manager
xfwm4 --daemon > out.txt
xftaskbar&
xfdesktop&
xfce4-panel
It's very intersting to me that the 4.0.0 build seems to run ok, but
neither the 4.0.1 or 4.0.2 work. I'm going to knock off for the night
but I appreciate the help!
Bill.
