Icons instead of taskbar possible?

Here is my vote/preference:
1 - Applications minimized as desktop icons (Unix-style)
2 - Icon box
3 - Taskbar

The desktop icons are missing. But I was told that someone was currently 
working on getting minimized applications as real icons (+ application launch 
icons for MS nostalgics).
Am I right?
If so, I'll take off my hat to the writer of the "real" icons.
