Panel button colors

Progress, of a sort, has been made. By completely removing the installed
xfce and reinstalling it (followed my much work to get .xinitrc and the
other configuration files back to where they should be), I now have colors
on the panel. However, the panel background (icon backgrounds and menu popup
widgets) are all the same. I _thought_ those could be set differently but,
perhaps, my memory fails me.

Anyway, I _know_ that I used be able to use the individual color bars on
the setup pallette to have four different colors for the desktop buttons on
the panel. I've lost that ability! Tried different theme engines and window
border styles without any luck.

What have I missed here? I'm running 3.8.16 now because I lost the URL to
3.8.18. Oh, well. It is much easier -- for me, at least -- to have the
virtual desktop buttons (the 8 of 'em) in four colors.

Thanks,

Rich
