setting term

I would like to be able to launch mc from the menu bar in xfce. If I run 
'term mc' I get mc in an xterm. What I would like is for that command to 
launch mc in Eterm. How would I go about doing this? I tried putting export 
TERM=Eterm in my .xinitrc file, but that has no effect.
