xfce + text display problems

this might work but I cant see the options
is it just kinda trial and error, or can this be edited in a file somewhere?

I had this happen a few weeks ago.  Go to setup (the pallette icon on the
panel), select XFce, and go down to "Font style".  Select "Browse".  You
may find that all the text in there appears as little boxes.   At least in
my case, that was because the font selector was defaulting to iso10646-1
instead of iso8859-1.  What you'll need to do is move down about 5 places
in the "Font Style:" box and then select the "OK" button.  You may need to
experiment a bit to get text back!
