Possible inconsistency with TaskBar

Hi all,

A silly question really. But here it goes:

I managed to build xfce4 and xfwm4. But havn't a clue
as how to use them. I changed my ~/.xinitrc file and
make the last line look like:
exec xfwm4, 
and got a blank screen.
I changed it into:
exec xfce4,
and got a bare enviroment without window manager.

Could someone explain this to me?
And how do you enable AA fonts?
