How do I disable/modify desktop panning?

Hello,

I'd like to turn off or increase the threshold on desktop panning, but can't
find anything the the config files that seems to control that.  I find that,
as soon as my mouse nears the edge of the desktop, that it flits off to another
desktop.  Quite annoying.
