This is really well outside the scope of this mailing list....
tty support is something that is traditionally compiled into the kernel.
In some very rare cases, its a module, but not with any Linux distro that
i've ever encountered.  So, this is a kernel issue.  If you didn't change
it, then you need to figure out who did, cause kernel's don't change
themselves.
