Just to play devil's advocate, SourceForge (the codebase) hasn't been 
open source in over a year.  This really isn't news in that context. 
Also, a deal like this is prolly very very neccesary to keep 
SourceForge.net (the web community) alive.  VA Software has been 
bleeding money basically since day one, so if IBM wants to infuse some 
influence that certainly is a positive.
