xftree doesn't work now!

I misspoke.  I've found the xftree binary from 3.8.14c works for me with
xfce-3.8.16

I tried replacing the xftree source from 3.8.16 with that from 3.8.14c and
recompiling xfce-3.8.16 but it failed and I haven't really looked into why
yet.
