Spyros,

The best would be to try from either a failsafe session or from an
xterm.

If you use a display manager (gdm, kdm, etc.) simply select "failsafe
session" so what you get is just an xterm.

If you start x from a console, run

xinit /usr/X11R6/bin/xterm 

Then, from that xterm, type

startxfce

and report what you see/get.
