Another thing to try is using the esd daemon. To do
this set the xmms output plugin to esd. Then configure
xfsound to use external (like suggested above) but use
esdplay instead of xfplay. This configuration works
for me. Note: After xmms plays the first song, a
message box might come up saying "Device not
available" Just ifnore it and click ok. It should then
continue. I think this happens when either the esd
daemon is not loaded yet, or when another esd program
plays. But it tends to happen only once. Another (and
in my opinion the preferred optioin) is to use ALSA
(ALSA output plugin for xmms and aplay instead of xfplay).
