I'm not sure what's the problem, but it surely
looks like something holds your /dev/dsp open. You might try to start xfwm without the sound module
(setup panel/ startup/ sound module) and restart xfwm.

If that works, alter the settings in xfsound. use external for playback (xfplay) and retry 
starting up with sound module enabled
