I had suggest a first read in the "Short guide about translating
messages"[0] from our i18n wiki.

But first, you need a tree that looks like $package/trunk/po, and not
xfce/$package.

	xfwm4/
	xfwm4/trunk/
	xfwm4/trunk/po/
	xfwm4/trunk/po/lv.po
	xfwm4/branches/
	...

Use the checkout scripts[1] to get all packages at once.

But in short, when you are done translating, run svn diff.

PS: when you add a new language don't forget to modify the po/LINGUAS file
