slang? certainly. Perhaps they should be replaced for more  contemporary english words ;^)

to poke: to interact with something as to attract it's attention, to tap someone on the back ("hey you"). I think it comes from 'poking a fire' with a stick which makes it jump up and burst in flames.

'dodgy' - evasive, elusive, meaning to hide from something by constantly evading it (i.e. the game "dodge ball", and the famous "dodgers")
