I'm not sure what situations you're in, anyway try
(`Thunar', `nl' can be replaced with the others,
of course):

  $ msgmerge -o nl.po.new nl.po Thunar.pot
  $ mv nl.po.new nl.po

If you don't have the source for Thunar, you can't update
Thunar.pot itself unless updated by Benedikt or me.
