From TerranAce007 at comcast.net Sun Aug 15 04:16:23 2004 From: TerranAce007 at comcast.net (Andrew Konosky) Date: Sat, 14 Aug 2004 21:16:23 -0500 Subject: Problems with mouse after CVS install Message-ID: <411EC777.7040403@comcast.net> I am running a FC2 system with kernel 2.6.7.-1.494.2.2. I installed XFCE from source (current CVS) and then added the /etc/X11 files to put it into the sessions menu, and the desktop works with no errors, but my mouse cursor is acting funny now. When I log in for the first time on my desktop (KDE and Gnome) programs, it is fine, but when I log out, the cursor is displayed in one spot, but the system thinks it is slightly up and to the left or right. It 'moves' differently every time, and I have to move the cursor around a button until I see it highlight because just pressing it won't work! Sometimes it goes away when I log in, sometimes not until I log out, and sometimes I have to restart X to get rid of it, but it keeps messing up and is pissing me off! I tried removing the /etc/X11 entries I made to take XFCE4 out of the sessions menu, but that didn't do any good. The only other thing I modified was the rpm installation for dbh-1.0. The xffm and xcalendar packages wouldn't compile because I didn't have bdh-1.0, but I did an rpm -qa|grep bdh and found it was installed, so I unistalled it then reinstalled it, then the packages compiled. For some reason, I don't know if it is related or not, my rcd red-carpet daemon just stopped working and started crashing, so I uninstalled and reinstalled the rpms, then started the rcd daemon with /etc/rc.d/init.d/rcd start, and now it works again... I hope I didn't screw something up with the XFCE4 install, but I spent half an hour compiling the huge amounts of source code, so I don't want to uninstall it right away until I figure out what is wrong. How should I go about fixing this? Here's the preliminary schedule: now-next friday evening: make copies and prepare all services etc etc friday evening: unplug ALL SERVICES. website might be up etc etc but mysql db's, CVS etc will be unreachable/offline/read only saturday: copy and move all related scripts, cronjobs, user accounts to the new server. content, sql dbs, etc will all be moved at this time. I will also run a last-time 100% rsync backup as well as individual backups of the important content (cvs trees etc) sunday: setup and test all major components (most notably E-MAIL, DNS, WWW, CVS). later: fix && make everything else work! warning: this schedule is preliminary. I do now know if I'll be able to make any of these 'deadlines' at all. Most likely HTTP and SMTP services will be started on time as well as DNS. Most likely CVS access might take a little longer as I'll want to make sure the new user accounts don't mess up stuff. I also need to re-setup the firewall etc etc... it could very well be that CVS access is not restored next weekend. Make sure you can work offline for a week in case I do not make the timeline. My goals are mainly DNS, SMTP and HTTP... al other services will be considered not important until those 3 are up and running (also because all people running lunar will not be able to do pretty much anything like updating etc...). REQUEST: can everyone with an account on xfce.org/lunar-linux.org BACKUP THEIR OWN: -e-mail -homedir (except xfceweb) -cronjobs anyone who is NOT able to do so next week can ask me. if you DONT get a message from you then I assume YOU DON'T NEED HELP. Make sure you don't lose anything... I have full backups but I'm not gonna restore anyones data when I'm busy with more important stuff. hope it all goes just fine... sofar PS this is the time to remind me of stuff I need to write down && ask questions (not next week). ;^) From nestu at lunar-linux.org Sun Aug 29 19:28:13 2004 From: nestu at lunar-linux.org (nestu) Date: Sun, 29 Aug 2004 19:28:13 +0200 Subject: server move update In-Reply-To: <4131FF7C.4070604@lunar-linux.org> References: <4131FF7C.4070604@lunar-linux.org> Message-ID: <4132122D.1080703@lunar-linux.org> Auke Kok wrote: [ ... ] What about an warning msg on index at both xfce.org and ll.org? "The site will be down for maintainance" or "we are moving!" or whatever. If you think of doing it, it should be done ASAP too. I can send a news post to ll.org myself, if you like. if Fran?ois is not around to do that for xfce.org and if you decide you want the msg, I suppose someone else will have to do it (I can volunteer too to do the fix if necessary, but someone else would have to commit it, obviously). I still think Fran?ois' hand is best ;) [ btw, salut, Fran?ois! ;)))))))) ] A previous warning could be posted, and then the exact date be said in a second post, for example. This is the main bottleneck of the move, after this is completed the server is 100% available as in that we can host whatever service we want on it. Until that time nobody will receive login accounts however. Just so you know. (most likely we will solve this issue before friday but I *have* to be reserved about that.) the optimistic timeframe: - by friday night everything is up except for some exotic shellscripts I wrote, everybody hass accounts && access and nobody noticed anything the pessimistic timeframe: - the server will start to receive && store e-mail on saturday, http is serving and by next week CVS access and login accounts will be restored (e-mail will be archived meanwhile). lets hope for the best! any questions so far for sofar? sofar From sofar at lunar-linux.org Mon Aug 30 12:04:31 2004 From: sofar at lunar-linux.org (Auke Kok) Date: Mon, 30 Aug 2004 12:04:31 +0200 Subject: website info reg. move Message-ID: <4132FBAF.7060800@lunar-linux.org> Can anyone take care of having a short announcement on the xfce.org website.
