Quit thunar with "thunar -q"
Edit ~/.config/Thunar/accels.scm
Copy that line(to keep a backup) and uncomment the new one:
(gtk_accel_path "<Actions>/ThunarWindow/open-parent" "space")

Note that  space is already bound to "activate item", which imo is as well
usefull and will be overwritten like that ..  I dont know where that can be
re-bound.
Maybe better to use "<Primary>space"  or "<Alt>space".

Hint: If you add a new UserCustomAction with keyboard shortcut, it aswell will
show here .. like that you can check the name used for every key..
