Sorry, so far I have no clue what could trigger such a crash .. never had
something similar.

Could you please attach a backtrace, in order to see from where in thunar
"gtk_cell_renderer_get_aligned_area" is called  ? (I assume you know how that
is done, since you already compiled thunar from source ?)
