Sorry, I missed the "autoplacement" part ... so yes, that would resolve as well
(2.)  You would suggest a button in the configuration/symbols tab to launch
auto-placement ?  

.. when dou you plan to start working on it ?  :)
( xfce lacks maintainers ... actually I am the thunar maintainer, afaik
xfdesktop is unmaintained. If you want to have it in reasonable time, you will
need to help )
