First, I disagree .. from the picture I prefer the look of thunars tabs :)
Second, thunar just uses a GtkNotebook, like Nautilus does. If you install both
on the same system, tabs should look the same for both (If you dont inject some
custom css for one of them). At least for me they do look the same.
Using different themes it is possible to change the look of GtkNotebook.

There is already a bug for that: Bug #10337

Agreed, could you please open a separate bug only for that ? (Please only open
one bug per issue in the future, that helps to stay focused)
