Can confirm that patch/workaround from
https://bugzilla.xfce.org/show_bug.cgi?id=15032#c4  does mitigate the issue for
me:
$ xmodmap ~/.Xmodmap
only has high usage for 1 second in processes: firefox, Xorg and xfwm4

if I do the ctrl+alt+F2, wait, alt+f1 to get back to X, then after like a 3
second freeze of 'top' (seen inside xfce4-terminal) I can see xfwm4 go back
down from apparently being high cpu usage during the freeze, and then I see
only Xorg (60%), firefox (65%) constantly for 20 or more seconds.

so it's different and a bit better.
