I'm using Arch Linux, gvfs-mtp 1.40.1 and Thunar from git master, following
your steps it doesn't crash here.

Unfortunately this backtrace is not useful, it doesn't tell where Thunar
crashed.
If I'm not mistaken gdb can load backtraces and get more info from binaries
with debug symbols, I tried this once but it didn't work.
